birdiegirl and i split a yummy raspberry vanilla cream soda this afternoon at java break, an offbeat little cafe in the basement of a old building. but don't tell my six year old! this is our special weekend hangout and she'll have a fit if she finds out we went without her. here she likes to mix her reeses puffs with cookie crisp at the cereal bar, watch vintage cartoons, and wander through the slightly creepy labyrinth of rooms where students hole up to study 24 hours every freakin' day.

oooo, i could have used a treat from java break today!
your secret is safe! i love the idea of a cereal bar. the place looks so cute, kind of like a speak-easy for sweets ;).
Ooooooh! Java Break is such an effin' cool place! The epitome of quirk! A destination place. Their signs made me laugh. And i loved the leopard print chairs and old-style TV. A 24 hrs? Man, I needed a place like this in college.
Back in my old town, there's the Black Cow -- a coffee joint with mismatched sofas and chairs and eclectic cow art on the walls. But this place has that place beat!
what a fun little place! and speaking of fun little places, your blog is one of my favorite fun little places...so i just awarded you a "spreader of love" award on my blog. have a lovely evening!
I love coffee houses! your pics are cute.Sounds like a neat place
Sounds lovely! Any place that serves cereal is all right by me!
what a fun place! goodness!
that's such a cool building isn't it? i get my haircut above java break at the blue dot and love looking up at the rotunda.
yes the weather today was amazing! what a great day for a walk downtown!
sneaking abreak from our daily chores feels sooo good :)
I'm so so glad you dropped a comment on my blog or I'd have never seen yours. It is truly brilliant, what you do here. And completely inspiring. If I see a lot of your blog I too will be tempted to try your kind of 'bring-it-together-beautifully' kind of art.
WOW!! What a great place. Caffiene Establishments are my favorite places to visit. Why can't we have a great place like that here??? I'm really feeling sorry for myself and all who would welcome a joint like this. Just pure bliss. Thanx for sharing. Sharon
what a cool place...I love, love, love the retro feel :)
This reminds me of the cafe in the basement at Greenville, South Carolina, very cozy and people stay they forever! I like the updated vintage posters. They should ask you to do some signs for them. That would be cool!
wow...i don't feel like i'm in kansas any more...a 24-hour coffee spot...i can't think of a place like that around here...this is incredibly amazing...the places you visit are so incredibly cool...and sounds so yummy too...i'm feeling some need for Cocoa Krispies and Corn Pops :)

I wanna go there some freakin' day!
Cool and cozy place to unwind. And you have such fun here!
ah - breaks. I'm not having many of those these days!
maybe soon?
a speak-easy is a perfect description for it. i would not at all be surprised if it was one back in the day. heather, i had a shot of that cool rotunda and it just didn't turn out well. hmmm... may need to get my hair cut there! and anairam - yes, they play all of those old crazy cartoons - they have TVs everywhere. indeed the epitome of quirk.
oh, l'atelier, i hope you make it to the states one of these days!
and welcome vineeta :)
Makes me want to move to kansas.
