i am a fan of words in just about any form, but as you probably can guess, i'm especially biased toward the hand drawn ones. whether it's a hand lettered poster on the street or a grocery list on the ground, it grabs my attention right away. it's just more interesting to me. it tells stories, invites questions and poses mysteries that a block of printed text simply can't. and selfishly, as a letterer whose career began long ago with a consistent C in handwriting, report card after report card, i find comfort and freedom in the flaws that hand lettering affords. i love to screw around with a word, scrunch it up, stretch it out and punch it down until those written explosions fit just the way i want them to. and how i adore the delirium of disappearing into a page with a pen for hours on end, working out the puzzle that is on my terms and no one else's, stopping only for ibuprofen breaks and the crashes coming from the other end of the house that tell me i'd better go tend to my children.
p.s. don't miss alexandra's new art as business interview series!

Hi Aimee,
Great post. Love the message and the style.
And, foofery - love the word.
xoxo
I absolutely adore this! The last sentence really hit my heart. *^_^*
love it....and true! I only just finished 2 handwritten letters.( a novelty) but wanted the notes to be special. I love your gorgeous lettering !
hand-stamped gloriousness.
I too, love the flourish of foofery!
Great post!
great handwritten typography
I couldn't agree with you more!!!! And I always love to hear your perspective on things.
You, my dear, are both a poet and and scribe.
What a fantastic doodle! It is amazing that someone who got C's in handwriting now makes that stuff art...shall we discuss what this means about our education? No, I think not!
I blogged on Friday about how one truly inspiring thing to me is to see the evidence of the artist's hands in the finished product - the same sort of love you're expounding on here!

We are NOT machines!
Ha! Too funny, I was on your blog while you were on mine. Boom! ; )
Wow, that is the coolest little ... manifesto? I'm not sure what to call it, but it's beautiful. I guess with the sea of perfectly printed type out there, the handmade touch actually is more noticeable and it's no surprise it gives a more human connection vibe. I find it so interesting that you used to get bad grades in handwriting and now you find it freeing to play around with penmanship...so cool.
heeheeheee. Foofery. Heehee! I will be saying that all day now.
Not only are you a brilliant letterer, but you are a master of words as well. Thank goodness you never fit that mold of "perfect" handwriting.
foofery
I agree. Pen to paper has so many qualities in expression that the computer screen will never know.
That could NOT have been more PERFECTLY stated. And thank you for creating the word "foofery". I lurve it :)
xoxoxo
Aimee, I always love your work. Great stuff. Lisa
Haha! I mastered penmanship and did calligraphy. I still love hand written letters but this pyooter business... too many letters, to many buttons...I love pushing buttons several buttons at a time like thiaalsfjn. seee? I can never do that with a pen and paper. Let me push many buttons againjhagsfdim!
"trails and tales"=Fantastic! You are an artist and a wordsmith, Miss Aimee!
Well said, well drawn! I don't write by hand enough, and I'm sad about that right this moment.
Love this!!
I'm feeling a bit fooferish at the moment, and I wish I could hand letter this comment! Maybe I'll hand-write my next post, if I ever think of anything to say again...thanks for making my day, yet again, miss amy!
Oops! I make far fewer comments when I'm not typing, aimee.
EXACTLY RIGHT.
I just found two giant boxes of my favorite old letters and I tell you they are WAY better than any of this email garbage. And oddly, way more worthy of saving, even though the digital cousin is easier and more compact to save. Just not worth it.
I love it when you do these Aimee - after all YOU are the Queen of words and lettering.
wonderful post! love your doodle its absolutely great
ps i did tag you, think i forgot to tell you (sorry if i did), check it out and play along if you feel like it :)
xx
my "c" is round & swoopy & my "u" is swirly/loopy & my "p" is pudgy.
my cup is full of delight from your post. xo
Yes, I agree! I actually wrote two notes to send through postal mail this morning! :)
Love your art and your writing!
i can't take credit for foofery! we use it all the time around here, but i did a quick check on the urban dictionary (which i always do when using a questionable word so i don't say anything i don't mean to) and it does indeed mean exactly what i though it did. i thought about using FOOFDOM too. that's not in the dictionary but i think it could mean the same thing.
i'm with you, sister.....the more time i can spend on lettering, the happier i am!! fab-u-lous artwork, gal.....fab-u-lous!!!! :)))
I am with you!! I love peoples handwriting in the same way I love eavesdropping and people watching. It says so much!
I am sad that handwriting is not pushed in school anymore. I always took pride in my writing and it gave me ownership now kids type and they all look the same on paper. It bums me out! I say no typing until middle school!
Words in all forms I love. Handwritten, typed, stamped, tossed in the air and formed anew. Yep, words are swell, yours especially so.
Looking forward, also, to seeing and reading more from Alexandra's Sunday interview series. I was so flattered to be asked to contribute and I'm glad you liked my answers.
(Good to see I am no longer a scrawl of hieroglyphics upon sign in. Phew.)

Looking forward to get a letter from you like this...haha...
Ya know, I wanna write an ebook (like, soon) & I was surprised to see that, when I thought about it, it was all handwritten. I didn't know why - but you do. Thanks for explaining it to me, Aimee.
Keep up the brilliance!
Sweet!
love handwriting. love getting hand-written stuff (hardly ever do these days).
message in a bottle coming your way.
hey.
yay.
hooray.
(I'm rhyming, can't you tell?)
oh i just love this. i really do. i love to write with pen and paper. watching the creation of a cursive letter is one of my favorite things to do. where for out thou oh days of old when writing notes required true expression from heart to hand...
I LOVE YOUR BLOG
