I love scouting out colorful stuff for each room of our house. I love scattering colorful pieces everywhere. And I love random, spur of the moment crafting decisions where I go all in on something. That is what happened with our staircase.
I have been making Thumb Books -- so-called because they aren't much bigger than one -- since the beginning of Artsyville time! I go through a lot of colorful paper here, and there are scraps. So many scraps. Crates and crates of them. I could recycle the leftovers, sure, but it's more fun to make stuff out of them, and my hands-down favorites are Thumb Books: notebooks that invite all sorts of possibilities and charm me with their petite size.
This one is less of a tutorial, and more of a stage for me to shout out about how much I love pairing kraft paper and colored pencil! They work together beautifully. Kraft paper has an amazing texture and tooth, and the pencil grabs on that like glue & gives it a powerful visual impact.
One of my favorite, laziest crafty quickies is the braided garland: I can whip one up in just a few minutes. I love being able to customize my own colors for the changes of the seasons, and the braiding adds a crafty punch.
