This one is less of a tutorial, and more of a stage for me to shout out about how much I love pairing kraft paper and colored pencil! They work together beautifully. Kraft paper has an amazing texture and tooth, and the pencil grabs on that like glue & gives it a powerful visual impact.
Add a black lettering marker to the mix, and the effect is even bolder.
You can find kraft paper in rolls (check the shipping section at office stores), in cardstock packs (craft store), or right at home -- just chop up pieces of grocery bags. There's so much that you can do with this combo: create gift wrap, draw your own coloring pages, craft greeting cards, draw journal pages, or just mess around and delight in the color.
A note on the colored pencils: I always use Prismacolors and highly recommend them. I've used every pencil I can find, and others are too waxy or light. Prismas go on like paint, they are blendable, and the color is stunning. They are pricey but worth the investment. They'll keep you addicted to doodling for hours, maybe years!
